Homemade Dog Food

You love your dog like a family member, and you want to do what is best to keep them healthy and happy. Nutrition affects your dog's health both physically and behaviorally. But there's a confusing amount of information out there about which food to feed your best friend. I was confused too. So I asked my veterinarian, and his answer surprised me - "The best food for your dog doesn't come in a bag or a can." That's when the lightbulb came on. I thought, "Of course! There isn't dog food and people food - just nutritious food that ALL animals need for energy, growth, and sustenance." Dogs are omnivores - just like us - and have the same nutritional requirements. So, about a year ago I started with a basic recipe outlined by my vet, and started making homemade food for my three boxers. It wasn't difficult. I was already buying and cooking most of the same elements for my husband and myself anyway. But it does take a significant amount of time.

I've experimented with various ingredients and supplements, and have found the best recipe for my dogs. They play more, shed less, and seem genuinely happy and healthy.

Another bonus is that you can possibly feed your dog less quantity than with commercial food because every ingredient is fresh or minimally processed delivering quality nutrition. A good rule-of-thumb: your pup will need 2% to 3% of his or her body weight in cups of food twice daily. For example, a fifty-pound dog would need from one (1) to one and a half (1.5) cups of food twice a day.

I encourage you to try this for your dog, even if it's just for one of his meals per day. It freezes well, and best of all, you can feel good about providing good nutrition for your best friend - the one counting on you to make the healthy decisions.

If you would like to try this, but haven't the time, I am starting a trial home delivery service for this food. I would require that you first get clearance from your vet, and complete a liability waiver. I have registered with the Florida FDA (pending) as a feed distributor.

I wholeheartedly believe that this homemade food will keep your pet healthy and happy, and could very well help prevent many auto-immune diseases. Click here for a sample batch recipe, along with answers to FAQ's that I have received from friends and clients that have tested this food on their own dogs. All the dogs that have tried it absolutely love it! Check out the Testimonials page, or better yet, become one.
